Another year of statistics is in the books for the Prius. Nothing much out of the ordinary from previous posts, except it's interesting seeing how quickly the price of gas fell and I didn't have any fillups during the month of September.
The table has a bunch of statistics for the life of the car and then shows the trend over the last 90, 180, and 365 days. Savings comparisons are approximate (I'm calculating based on averages and I'm not sure it's accurate). Pretty charts are below.

Another six months of Prius statistics is in the books. I've changed my work commute to mostly public transportation, which has significantly decreased my average miles per day. The table below shows a bunch of statistics for the life of the car compared to the last 90, 180, and 365 days of service.

With the rising cost of gas, I was wondering the savings of owning a Prius versus cars that got lower gas mileage. Here are calculations of savings for the entire 4.5 years of ownership:
- Lifetime Savings vs. 25 MPG = $1,917.75
- Lifetime Savings vs. 30 MPG = $1,215.93
- Lifetime Savings vs. 35 MPG = $714.63
- Lifetime Savings vs. 40 MPG = $338.66
Another year, another year of useless statistics. Now new and improved with a fancy graph showing MPG distribution per tank. Just for kicks I also broke down the distribution by months. Sometimes I scare even myself.
First, the useless statistics:

(Here's the mid-year update)
The Prius turned 1000 (days) and got a present. I'm sure the improved aerodynamics will result in a dramatic increase in fuel efficiency statistics.
As if I needed any more proof that D had geeky tendencies.... I present the following useless statistics he has been able to calculate about his car:

Whatever you do, don't ask about the charts.
I hope I'm adopted. Oh wait, I am!
[Update: Okay here are some charts. Since the average number of fillups per month is slightly under 2, you can't really establish statistical significance. Months with only one fillup can seem abnormally high or low. Also be aware that the monthly historical data can be skewed because the data is based on fillup date, so data for a tank can span months (at least D doesn't always fill up on the last day of the month). An example of skewed data is January/February 2005, where both months had only one fillup. If both of those fillups had been in the same month, the average line would have smoothed out a bit.]
