Like yesterday's hunt it's a photo I've posted before and from the same trip to Yosemite. You'll just have to suffer seeing it again. I see it almost every day, since I made it my desktop background and printed it (along with the Tenaya Lake photo) to hang over my desk at work.
I saw the sliver of the moon and it was calling to me... "Take my picture. I'm pretty. I'll be setting soon. Hurry up. Pay no attention to the fact that it's 22°F." Hey, moon, you forgot to mention that the wind chill is 5°F and winds are gusting to 23MPH, which makes it tricky to take a steady long-exposure shot at high zoom. Friggin' moon. Standing in the dark taking pictures of the moon I rely on touch to play with buttons on the camera (changing exposure, setting the 10-second timer, pushing the shutter). After 10 minutes of shooting my hand was pretty much numb and I was reduced to random poking in the hopes that I'd eventually hit the right button. Needless to say, these aren't the best examples from the moon series.
I saw the moon while I was getting the mail and just had to try and capture a picture of the Earthshine. It's a little fuzzy because it's a 4 second exposure.
There were still some high, thin clouds for most of the night, so I was having a bit of difficulty getting a clear shot of the moon. Every once in a while a halo with a little color would appear. I eventually caught the moon in a clear patch.
This concludes the nightly moon picture. There's a collection of the past month's moon pictures. I was able to get decent shot on 19 of the past 31 days. When you take into account that for the 9-day stretch around the new moon the moon wasn't visible in the night sky when I was awake, it means there were only 2 nights the moon was completely obscured by clouds (the third missed night was the evening of the Vox party in Boston). Pretty good weather statistics for New England.
The moon enters it's full phase tomorrow, marking a full lunar cycle since I started taking these pictures. It's been a good month, only missing a couple nights (other than the time around new moon). After tomorrow I probably won't be posting daily pictures, but hopefully I'll catch some interesting shots on occasion.
